Slow Fashion

Slow Fashion

Slow Fashion focuses on sustainability, surrounding both the quality and the quantity of the clothing being produced, and pays mindfulness to those involved in the manufacturing of the garments.

River Indigo is on a journey to embody slow fashion and the ethics behind this. These are a few ways we are currently implementing the slow fashion movement in our brand:

1- We use good quality fabrics. The majority of our clothing is crafted in natural fabrics such as linen, cotton and viscose which require less energy to produce, decompose faster than synthetics and are more durable!

2- We only produce small quantities. We usually only make 1-2 of each size and colour in our garments. Not only does this ensure you are buying something unique, but it prevents waste in terms of stock overflow

3- We produce everything locally. All of our garments are made just 10 minutes away from our Kloof studio. We are proud to say pieces are produced in a very small, women-run factory who pay the seamstresses above minimum wage.

4- Local is lekker! Not only do we produce locally, we get every single thing we need to run our business from local suppliers. From our biodegradable clothing tags that you can plant (from Growing Paper), to our photographers (Studio 031), to our trimmings (Buttons & Bows), we are always trying our best to support other local businesses.

5- We prevent unnecessary waste. We use offcuts of our material to make beautiful shopper bags that we gift to our clients, which you can use in lieu of plastic shoppers. Any offcuts that are too small to use are donated to our local craft store- Embocraft.

We are still constantly learning, evolving and improving on our slow fashion journey and strive to be more mindful when it comes to sustainability in all parts of our business. We want to thank our loyal clients who have supported our small business this far.

Support slow fashion. Support River Indigo!
